COE is guided by the institution’s core values and committed to the development of learners according to the IB learner profile or the IGCSE standards. COE prepares learners to lead a balanced life in a world that requires them to be knowledgeable and skilled to address the challenges of the 21st century with new approaches.

Learning can be fun with gamification. At COE, various games are used as means of imparting technical knowledge about coding, to students. Further, learners showcase their creative side using games. Active learning and gamification of concepts play a pivotal role in the holistic development of learners.

Games create a healthy, competitive environment for learning. Additionally, games enhance problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination in early learners, strategy, planning, and multitasking skills. Above all, games played as a team help enhance team spirit, collaboration and communication among the learners. It also promotes the socio-emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the learner.

Life skills like learning to lose, stress management, and risk-taking which are hard to teach in classrooms are easily introduced to learners through gamification.

Gamification

Gamification is all about taking elements from game-design, the theories and principles that drive gameplay are taken out and apply it to other contexts.

While game-based learning is leveraging games to show and deepen understanding of curriculum, gamification focuses on applying the principles of games to non-game situations, like the classroom as an entire.

Gamification involves extrinsic and intrinsic risks and rewards to encourage both academics, behavior, and non-cognitive skills, including collaboration and engagement.

Benefits

Turning a classroom lesson into a game can trigger an equivalent internal quest to overcome and succeed. Learners who won’t have enjoyed memorising flashcards might find themselves more motivated to win a challenge or participate in a game. This alteration in direction benefits learners who aren’t motivated to interact with concepts through reading a textbook or memorising flashcards, while also introducing more fun.

One of the most important benefits of gamification within the classroom is its versatility.. A game offers instant feedback, gives learners who might otherwise have sat quietly within the background, an opportunity to participate, and may place a stress on practice and mastering the knowledge.

Education Trends: Game based learning

Game-based learning refers to a classroom reward system that will help learners nurture a love of learning from the beginning. By using activities to show new concepts, teachers can help a toddler transition from learning solely to achieve school to learning for its own sake. Sometimes, an initial game or goal is the key to unlocking a child’s inner fascination with a topic.

By inspiring participation, game-based activities are more likely to assist learners to retain knowledge. Over time, this results in learning as a motivation in itself for learners rather than being lured only by games or rewards.

Research suggests that gamification also can make assignments less intimidating for learners susceptible to stress. As you employ activities to show a topic, learners learn to associate learning with curiosity and joy rather than fear. Without added stress, these students are better prepared to participate and achieve school.

Gamification Motivates learners

Introducing gamification in education helps spice up classroom engagement, collaboration, and learning. Instant feedback involving points or levels completed motivates a child to actively participate.

Gamification is a teaching methodology that makes a game-like scenario that specializes in the course curriculum and objectives. This strategy is being adopted worldwide to reinforce education and to reap higher results. The strategies like leader boards, scores, badges, etc help to represent student achievements playfully.
